Host Intro: In 2004, President Bush announced that the US would return to sending manned missions to the Moon. NASA recently unveiled plans to build a permanent base on the moon within 20 years that will allow humans to live there.  Some NASA watchers think this is the wrong place from which to launch the manned exploration and colonization of space.  Robert Zubrin is an aerospace engineer and author, best known for his advocacy of manned Mars exploration.  He holds a masters degree in Aeronautics and Astronautics and a Ph.D. in Nuclear Engineering.  Disappointed with the lack of interest from government in Mars exploration, Zubrin formed the Mars Society in 1998.  The Mars Society is an international organisation advocating a manned Mars mission.  Robert Zubrin spoke with KGNU's Sam Fuqua at our studios in Boulder.  You can find out more about the Mars Society on their website: marssociety.org.
