Evolution: It's Not Just For Geeks - James DeGregori
Host Intro: Why is it that as our scientific knowledge increases, as we are able to peek deeper into the atom and farther into the universe, that superstition and pseudo-science like psychics and astrology not only persist, but sometimes grow more popular? Our lives are surrounded more and more by technology, the fruit of scientific research, and so, understanding the basic tenants of science is essential for understanding our day-to-day lives, the world around us, and our place in it. Up next, How on Earth's Joel Parker talks with James DeGregori, with the University of Colorado's Anschutz medical campus, professor in the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular genetics, and Director of the Molecular Biology program. Dr. DeGregori is also one of the founders of the Colorado Evolution Response Team, a group of scientists that respond to inaccurate attacks on evolutionary theory and to oppose attempts to introduce religiously-motivated curricular changes into science classes in Colorado public schools.
